Raz-Kids
Raz-Kids is an online reading program. The student listens to a book be read to them, then the students read the book. At the end they can review a worksheet and then take a quiz. To successfully move to the next level the student must complete all of these tasks and read a certain amount of books in each level. The teacher can assign the quizzes and what they want the each student to read. Student records are tracked to help the teacher know what level the students are on if there is not enough time to continue tracking all year. Another benefit of this program is that students can access it anywhere.
This program would be useful in the classroom to give students another source to read from. It also is useful because it reads to the students first so they can be more accustomed to the words. The teacher can write or say what the student needs work on, which will help with differentiating instruction to accompany all of the learners. If a student gets done with an assignment before they could go onto the website and practice their reading skills.
Two examples to use this technology to increase students learning:
1. During daily reading tasks, students could work on Raz-Kids. This website allows for students to work on comprehension while giving the teacher time to work with reading groups. It helps with listening , oral and comprehension skills. By using this program, students move at their own pace and have different readers to listen to.
2. Raz-Kids can be used at home for homework. If a student is struggling with reading this program would be excellent to help the student increase their reading level. Because the program reads to the student and has the student read back to the program, the student can work independently with this site.
